Many of my earliest memories of my family are centred around food, and with them are stories to tell - stories about my Celtic/French heritage, about Brittany. My grandparents had a seafood crêperie restaurant at Le Vougot beach in Plouguerneau, Brittany. I remember making crêpes and galettes with my family, going fishing with my grandad, watching huge pots of ruby-red strawberries bubbling away on the stover while jars wait to be filled with homemade jam, collecting winkles and seaweed on the rocks during low tide, cooking yummy pies...It is only when you are so far away that you realize the power food has to maintain cultural connections and help explore one’s roots.
